Nixa defeated Carthage 3-2 in the first overtime on Thursday. This puts the Eagles at 10-9 for the season and 4-1 in the conference. The Eagles got on the scoreboard first with a goal from KhaiUyen Huynh which came off of a Kaleb Romero cross to a Clinton Joslyn touch to the Huynh finish. Early in the second half Kaleb Romero made a nice run down the Tiger left side and beat a couple of defenders then slotted home a nice left-footed shot to make the score 2-0. Carthage came roaring back and just 5 minutes after the Eagle goal they score to cut the lead and with 10 minutes to play tied the game and would send it to overtime. The Eagles got the game winner just 2 minutes into the first overtime when Tyler Bartell sent a nice ball into the box which Chandler Hale headed toward the far post and Romero finished the one hop header. It was a great win for the program with all players contributing. The defense played great keeping the potent offense of Carthage at bay. Micah Wyssmann had a great game at the center back position. Our next game is on Monday at Glendale, game time is 5pm for the JV so Varsity will start around 6:30pm.
On Monday the Eagles lost a heartbreaker to Bolivar in penalty kicks 2-1. The Eagles scored early in the first half with an unassisted goal from Kaleb Romero. With just under 10 minutes to play the Liberators tied the score off of a corner kick. After the two overtime periods the game was decided by penalty kicks and the Eagles again are struggling from the penalty spot. The guys are good enough they just have to believe in themselves and we’ll be fine if we go to pks again.
The JV beat Bolivar on Monday 4-0. Mason Young had 2 goals and also a share of the shutout. Nathan Massey and Nate Hoffmann also shared the shutout with Chad Mills and Luke Moore scoring the other two goals. Jamison McFadden and Zach Allen tallyed assists. The team played for the COC JV title on Thursday against Carthage. Because of our tie against Webb City the Eagles had to beat Carthage to take the title if they could beat Branson next week. It was a great game but the teams played to a 2-2 draw. The tie gave Carthage the title. The team can finish second outright with a win at Branson. Mason Young got the first goal off of a feed from Nate Hoffmann and Drake Trease scored off of a penalty kick. The team’s record is now 8-5-2.
