JV Lady Eagles COC Champs; Varsity Comes Up Short

The JV Lady Eagles beat Ozark tonight 3-2 in a great game which improves their record to 11-2.  Both teams came ready to play and didn’t let the field conditions slow them down.  Ozark would strike first midway through the first half but the Eagles answered a few minutes later when Katie Bolton passed the ball back to Brooke Finley who hit a beautiful shot from 30 yards out.  Ozark would go up 2-1 at the half when they broke through and finished a one on one with the keeper.  The Eagles would not be denied and came out with a purpose in the second half.  After putting pressure on the Ozark defense the Eagles broke through when Brooke Rowden pounced on the ball that was crossed by Leanna Thomas that came off the keeper.  The game winning goal was scored by Katie Bolton who hussled to get in the way of a clear from an Ozark defender which deflected off of Katie and over the head of the Ozark keeper.  The win gives the Lady Eagles the COC Championship.  This team has played so well this year and if they keep it going the rest of the season they will set records that might not be broken.

These two teams could meet again on Saturday in the Ozark JV Tournament if they both win their first round games.  It would be a great rematch.  Nixa will play Willard at 10:45am and if they win they will play at 3pm.  All games will be at Ozark’s Stadium field.

The Varsity didn’t get the COC championship like the JV but it wasn’t for lack of effort.  The field held up as well as can be expected but the field conditions were terrible for the players tonight.  Both teams handled it well and made the best of it.  The game was back and forth all night with both teams having chances.  Ozark was able to get more shots which is something we struggle with, trying to get that final touch on goal.  The teams battled to a 0-0 draw at halftime.  Ozark would get the game winner 10 minutes into the second half.  Ozark put the ball in the box and after Nixa failed to clear the ball a couple of times it found its way to an open Ozark player who put it away.  It was a hard fought game that wasn’t pretty but both teams have great players who adapted well to a tough situation.  Games like this will make us better and get us ready for the district tournament.
