Lady Eagles improved their record to 14-6-1 with the win over Joplin tonight. The Eagles came out sluggish against Joplin and Joplin made them pay late in the first half when Kelsey Sanders hit a nice shot from 30 yards out that went in just under the bar. Joplin held the 1-0 lead at halftime. The Lady Eagles came out with much higher intensity and pressured the Joplin defense most of the second half. Nixa would finally break through 15 minutes into the half when Jo Pavlowsky crossed the ball from the left side and found Rachel Murphy who hit a nice left footed shot over the keeper to tie the score. A few minutes later the ball was sent in to the Joplin penalty box and it skipped off the head of a Joplin defender toward the goal and Kelsey Bartell beat the defense and the keeper to the ball and headed it home for the go-ahead and game winning goal. With about 10 minutes remaining, Kelsey Haist made a nice move into the box and was taken down by a Joplin defender. She converted the penalty kick for a 3-1 lead. With 5 minutes remaining Haist made a nice run down the right side and into the box then crossed it to Ashlyn Robillard who finished with a nice shot to beat the goalie. The defense did a nice job again limiting Joplin to just 2 shots on goal. The ladies did a nice job coming back but we have to start strong and put teams away so we can just relax and play like we know how.
The JV improved to 13-3 on the year with a 1-0 victory over Joplin. The Lady Eagles dominated play but couldn’t find the back of the net until the final minutes of the game when Becca Kerr made a nice run and crossed the ball to Brooke Rowden who beat the keeper with a nice shot. It was yet another shutout for goalkeeper Kendall Barclay and the defense.
We play Tuesday at Camdenton for our makeup of an earlier match. JV starts at 5pm with the varsity to follow around 6:30pm.
