Eagles take 3rd in Christian County Tournament






The Nixa Eagles finished third in the Christian County Tournament goint 2-1 on the weekend.  The Eagles opened up against Greenwood on Friday night winning 2-1 in penalty kicks.  The Blue Jays came out strong early but Nixa would get stronger as the game progressed.  Nixa would open the scoring when KhaiUyen was taken down in the box midway through the first half.  Kaleb Romero would convert the penalty kick for the early lead.  Greenwood would tie the game on a set play sent into the box that Chris Aiken would finish to tie the game before the half.  The Eagles came close many times in the second half but couldn’t score, the Greenwood keeper was outstanding on Friday.  After the two overtimes the game was won by Nixa 2-1 in penalty kicks with Kaleb Romero and Drake Trease converting their penalty kicks.  Mason Young was incredible in goal stopping 4 of 5 penalty kicks.

The Eagles would lose a tight game with Carthage in the semifinals 1-0, the lone goal coming in the first half.  Carthage played well and deserved the win.  The 3rd place game was against Webb City which the Eagles won 5-0.  Goals were scored by Chad Mills, KhaiUyen Huynh, Tanner Pesek, Robert Neathery, and Drake Trease with Neathery (2) and Romero getting assists.  For Chad, Robert, and Drake it was their first career varsity goals.

The team plays Lebanon on Monday which is a later start at 5pm with the JV playing first but just for one half.  The varsity game will follow around 5:50pm.  The Eagles then open conference play on Thursday hosting Neosho.  Game time will be 4:30pm JV first.
