Eagles fall to Glendale in PK’s

October 20th, 2009

Glendale_V2

Glendale_JV

Considering sickness on both teams, the game was a hard fought, quality match.  The Eagles played well and had some quality chances but couldn’t find a way to beat the Glendale defense.  The Eagle defense was just as stingy finding ways to thwart the Falcon attack.  Mason Young was outstanding in goal coming up with 14 saves on the night and tallying his 9th shutout of the season.  The score was 0-0 after regulation and two overtime periods.  The game was decided with penalty kicks and Glendale would prevail 5-3 in the shootout.  Robert Neathery, Weston Hanger, and Kaleb Romero converted their shots in the shootout.

The JV had Glendale down but two late goals gave the Falcons the victory.  Austin Engleman would score the Eagles goal early in the second half but Glendale found a way to beat the Eagles.  The match was high quality, one of the better JV matches this season.

The Eagles came out strong beating Marshfield 8-0. KhaiUyen Huynh scored first in the 11th minute from Drake Treases pass.  Trease would find Kaleb Romero in the 15th and 16th minutes for a quick 3-0 lead.  Huynh would score again off of Drake Hughes pass in the 23rd minute.  The Eagles would get two more in the first half with Scott Sterling and Chad Mills heading home goals with under 2 minutes to go in the half.  Mills’ goal was assisted by Jesse Bihlmeyer.  Austin Engleman would get an unassisted goal in the 50th minute for a 7-0 lead.  The Jays would tighten up defensively and just give up one more in the 79th minute with Luke Moore scoring off of Robert Neathery’s pass.  Mason Young got his 8th shutout of the season.

Nixa’s record is now 11-8.

The Eagles continued their high level play with a win over Carthage.  The Eagles scored an early goal and held on for the win.  The goal was scored by Robert Neathery from Weston Hanger’s nice cross.  The defense held strong and they were able to hold off the potent Carthage offense.

Nixa over Bolivar 4-0, JV Wins 3-0; Marshfield Friday (V only 4:30pm)

Bolivar_JV

The Nixa Eagles bounced back from a disappointing weekend at the Kickapoo Tournament with a 4-0 win over state ranked (class 2) Bolivar.  With 3 losses in the tournament all by one goal the team was pretty down.  With the guys really focused on playing unselfish team soccer they took the field and played great tonight.  The team moved the ball so well and found the open man consistently.  The team got on the board in the 13th minute when Tanner Pesek scored an unassisted goal.  Bolivar would battle back and had some quality opportunities late in the half but the defense and Mason Young held them off.  The Eagles would put the game away early in the 2nd half with 3 goals in the first 13 minutes of the half.  Robert Neathery finished a nice cross from Drake Trease, Pesek would get his second goal off of a cross from Kaleb Romero, and Romero would finish the scoring from a Trease cross.  The defense played really well tonight, Luke Moore, Nathan Massey, Micah Wyssmann, Weston Hanger, Josh Rose, Corey Cann, and Nate Hoffman made plays all night.  The midfield moved the ball so well, Charlie Fenwick, Corey Cann, Drake Trease, Robert Neathery, Drake Hughes, Matt Overby, and Jesse Bihlmeyer played really well together.  Tanner Pesek, Kaleb Romero, KhaiUyen Huynh, Chad Mills, Jameson McFadden, and Austin Engleman kept the pressure on the Bolivar defense all night.  Mason Young played a great game in goal and earned another shutout.

The JV notched another win with a 3-0 shutout of Bolivar.  The JV played well but couldn’t penetrate the stout defense of Bolivar until the 62nd minute when Jameson McFadden scored off of Austin Engleman’s pass.  The team scored two more in the final minutes of the game with Engleman and McFadden getting goals and assists going to Jake Dawson and Nate Hoffman.  Thomas Canales got the shutout in goal.

The team will leave at 2:45 on Thursday for Carthage, game time is 5pm JV and then around 6:30pm for the varsity.

The make-up game for Marshfield is on Friday at 4:30 and it is a varsity only contest.

Don’t forget that we have practice on Sunday from 2-3:30pm at the JH in preparation for Glendale on Monday.  The Woodwards will host a pasta dinner at 5pm on Sunday for the boys.  We will have directions sent home with the players later this week.
